All-American! Fremeau breaks UOlivet record and finishes fifth in shot put at NCAA Championships
GENEVA, Ohio – The University of Olivet sophomore Owen Fremeau finished fifth in the shot put at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held at the SPIRE Institute. With the finish, he earns First Team All-American honors.
Seeded 18th in the event, Fremeau broke the UOlivet record on his first attempt and shattered it with a throw of 17.43 meters / 57 feet, 2.25 inches on his third attempt. He previously held the record at 16.62 meters / 54 feet, 6.50 inches.
"Owen had a phenomenal day," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "His third throw was a huge PR by nearly three feet. Being in the first flight, he knew had to get a big mark to have a chance to be an All-American. Owen went out and did that and then had another good throw in the finals. I am so proud of what he accomplished not only today but what he did this season both indoors and outdoors."
Fremeau's fifth-place performance is the fourth-best finish in school history at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Stan Baker tied for second in the 100-meter dash in 1984, and John Allen was third in the high jump in both 1975 and 1976. Overall, Fremeau is the seventh NCAA Outdoor All-American from Olivet.
