Brown and Chandler earn All-MIAA Indoor Track & Field honors
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Senior Jordon Brown and freshman DeVondre Chandler from The University of Olivet men's indoor track and field team have been named to the 2024 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Team. All-league honors are based on a student-athlete's performance at the 2024 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Brown finished first in the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the championships. He clocked-in with a MIAA and school-record time of 21.64 seconds in the 200, while recording a time of 48.79 seconds in the 400. In addition, Brown won the long jump with an indoor personal best mark of 22 feet, 7-1/4 inches.
Brown is now a four-time All-MIAA Indoor Track and Field team selection. He ran on a leg of the winning 4x400-meter relay in 2020 and 2021 to land a spot on the team. Last year, Brown won the 200- and 400-meter dashes to earn All-MIAA honors. He is the first four-time All-MIAA Indoor honoree in school history.
"Even though everything was not perfect for Jordon at the meet, he raced with determination and confidence and was able to win the 200 and 400, while setting a MIAA record in the shorter event," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "I am proud of the changes he has made in order to be successful as a young man and excited to see what he does at the NCAA meet."
Chandler captured the MIAA title in the high jump at the championships. His winning height – 6 feet, 8-1/4 inches – broke the school record. At the championships, Chandler cleared the bar on the first attempt at the first four heights he jumped at. After the runner-up finisher failed to clear the next height, Chandler got over on his first attempt. He then was able to clear the winning mark on his second effort. He tried to tie the conference record but failed on his three attempts.
"DeVondre has made tremendous progress throughout the year, and everything came together at the MIAA championship when he had a personal best in the high jump," said Lutzke. "DeVondre is always smiling and learning every meet and it has been exciting to watch his development this season."
