Indoor track and field teams open season at SVSU Classic
The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened their seasons tonight by participating in the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Classic at the James E. O'Neill Arena in University Center. The meet was unscored and also featured teams from Saginaw Valley, Oakland University, Alma College and Central Michigan University.

Women
On the women's side, freshman Hailey Willett (Leslie) posted a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.94 seconds in the finals. She ran seven-hundredths faster in the preliminaries. Junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.31 seconds.
Two school records were broken in the field events. With a first-place finish in the long jump, senior Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) set a new record with a 5.15 meter leap. FreshmanDanielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) cleared the pole vault bar at 2.73 meters for the new school record and second-place finish.
Also in the field events, junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) finished in fifth-place in the shot put with an 11.19 meter throw.
Men
On the men's side, sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing) turned in the top performance on the track, as he was third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds. FreshmanDamien Johnson (Battle Creek/Central) placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.75 seconds, while sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.48 seconds.
The men also broke two records in the field events. Freshman Travon Tantum (Battle Creek/Lakeview) was second in the long jump with a school-record 6.10 meter leap. Despite a seventh-place finish in the weight throw, senior Dustin Norton (Carson City/Crystal) set a school record with a 13.50 meter throw.
Olivet is back in action next Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational.
