Men's swimming and diving team moves up to third-place at the 2005 MIAA Championships
After the second day of the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, the men’s swimming and diving team is in third-place.
After the second day of the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships, the men’s swimming and diving team is in third-place. The Fighting Comets have 272.5 points and trail second-place Kalamazoo College by just 11.5 points heading into tomorrow’s final day.
In tonight’s action, Olivet had one second-place, a third-place four fourth-places, a fifth-place and two sixth-place finishes. Freshman Dustin Meisner (Erie/Mason) was second in the 100 breaststroke (:57.58). In the morning prelims, he had the top time (:57.29), which is a NCAA championships automatic qualifying time.
Fourth-place finishes were by Ananta Fetters (Fennville/Holland) in the 100 backstroke (:55.11), Ben Guins (Lansing Eastern) in the 100 breaststroke (:59.45), Brian Jaffee (Bowling Green, Ohio) in the 400 individual medley (4:22.06) and Koji Takahashi (Etbicoke, Ontario/Silver Thorn CI) in the 100 butterfly (school-record :52.15).
Fetters and Mitch Powers (Kalamazoo/Central) were sixth in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, respectively (:52.92 and :55.18)
In the three-meter dive, Andy Weiss (Fremont) was third (399.75) and Steve Dastoli (Kalamazoo/Central) was fifth (337.50).
Fetters, Meisner, Powers and Juan Aguirre (Queretaro, Mexico) set a school record with a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:37.63). Jaffee, Takahashi, Jason Wheatley (Portage Central) and Levi Yockey (Phoenix, Ariz./North) was fourth and broke the school record in the 800 free relay (7:10.83).
Saturday’s action begins with preliminaries at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
