FREELAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's soccer team has swept the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week awards. Junior Joshua Rosendale has been named the Offensive Player of the Week, and sophomore Andrew Aragon has been chosen the Defensive Player of the Week.
Rosendale scored four goals last week in leading the Comets to a 2-1 record. He tallied both goals in Olivet's 2-1 win Sept. 11 at Defiance (Ohio) College and followed that performance by scoring the first two goals in the Comets' 3-2 victory Sept. 13 at Rockford (Ill.) University. The four goals push his season total to nine, which is two more than his first two seasons combined.
"Josh continued his hot streak to start the season by adding two goals in both the Defiance and Rockford games," said Olivet head coach Dan Montanye. "The goals were a combination of fantastic team play and individual brilliance by Josh. His work off the ball put him in some fantastic positions and he didn't disappoint with some clinical finishing ending in four goals during the week."
Aragon played all 90 minutes in goal against Defiance and Rockford. He made 10 saves against Defiance, and followed that game with nine saves against Rockford.
"Andrew's performances against Defiance and Rockford were a product of his dedication and commitment to excellence since he arrived at Olivet," said Montanye. "He had to deal with a lot of balls sent into his box and he continually repelled them with his positioning and decisive decision making. Andrew stayed calm under pressure and made some big saves late in games to help us secure two victories on the road last week."
The Comets return to action Saturday when they host Wabash (Ind.) College at 2 p.m.
