OLIVET, Mich. – Dan Montanye has been named head men's soccer coach at Olivet College, according to announcement by Athletic Director Ryan Shockey.
"I am thrilled to have Dan lead our men's soccer program," said Shockey. "He is energetic and excited about leading the Comets. He understands the NCAA Division III philosophy having played at it and coached at it. I believe those traits will make him be a successful coach at Olivet."
Montanye joins the Olivet staff after spending the 2015 season as the head men's soccer coach at Iowa Wesleyan University. In his only season, he led the Tigers to a 4-16 record after they had just accumulated one win in the previous two seasons combined. The team also moved up in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference standings from the 2014 season, and scored five times as many goals and allowed half as many goals as in 2014.
Montanye earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UW-W) in 2011. While there, he was a midfielder for the Warhawks from 2007-10 and made his mark in both the school and conference record books. Montanye found his way into the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record book in single-season goals and points, and career goals, points and assists. He holds spots in the UW-W record book in single-season assists, and career goals career assists.
Montanye was a member of the 2009 and 2010 WIAC championship teams and helped UW-W advance to the NCAA Division III tournament three times (2007, 2009 and 2010), including the 2010 team which advanced to the Sweet 16. He was named to the All-WIAC and NSCAA All-North Region teams in 2009 and 2010.
Montanye also played semi-professionally for the Thunder Bay Chill in the United Soccer League's Premier Development League in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He has acquired his USSF "C" National coaching license and most recently earned a master's degree in health, human performance and recreation from UW-W.
After his playing career ended, Montanye joined the UW-W men's and women's soccer coaching staffs as an assistant coach in 2011. Both teams won the WIAC Titles and competed in the NCAA Tournament during the 2011 season, with the women advancing to the sweet sixteen. From 2012-2014, Montanye served only as the assistant men's coach for the Warhawks. During the 2014 season, they were ranked third in the north region and received a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
"I would like to thank Ryan Shockey for providing me this opportunity to be the next men's soccer coach at Olivet College," said Montanye. "I am very excited about the potential of this program and look forward to helping the players reach their full ability."
Montanye resides in Marshall with wife, Mary.
