The Fighting Comets scored the first goal of the game in the fifth minute after an obstruction call in the goalie box. Senior Eric Cole (Eaton Rapids High School) kicked the ball over the goalies head on an assist from junior Frank Barretta (Macomb/Lutheran North High School). The Yeomen tied the score with a goal in the closing seconds of the first half.
Oberlin scored what proved to be the game-winner just five minutes into the second on a shot that hit the right post and top crossbar before falling into the net. The Yeomen then added an insurance goal in the 76th minute.
The Comets had 18 shots. Cole had a team-high seven shots and sophomore Gabe Pringle (Grand Blanc High School) had four. Freshman goalkeeper Brad Polcyn (Marshall High School) played the entire game, faced 18 shots and made six saves.
Olivet is idle until next Saturday, Sept. 20 when it hosts non-conference foe Huntington (Ind.) College at 1 p.m. The Comets begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Sept. 24 when they host Kalamazoo College at 4 p.m.
