UOlivet ends season with 86-69 loss to Trine in MIAA Tournament semifinals

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's basketball team ended its season with an 86-69 loss to Trine University (Ind.) in the 2026 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament semifinals.
THE BASICS

- Records: Olivet 15-11 overall, Trine 19-7 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Thunder raced out to a 12-4 lead. The Comets chipped away at their deficit and eventually tied the score, 15-15, with 11:47 remaining until halftime. Olivet evened the score one more time, 17-17.
- Trine answered with a 10-3 run to take a seven-point lead. The Comets fought back and closed the gap to three points, 27-24, at the 5:30 mark. The Thunder closed the half with a 15-4 spurt to take a 42-28 lead into the locker rooms.
- Trine increased its lead to 24 points at the 14:02 mark of the second half. Olivet trimmed its deficit down to 12 points but did not get any closer for the rest of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Porter Kretschman and junior Conner Schipper each scored 13 points.
- Sophomore Mike Okello added 12 points, followed by junior Nathan Richardson with 11 and junior Lee Hardy with 10.
- Kretschman grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The last time Olivet hosted the MIAA Tournament semifinals was 2018.
- Hope College won tonight's other semifinal over Calvin University, 73-63, and will face Trine in the MIAA Tournament championship game tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
