UOlivet loses high-scoring game against John Carroll, 100-96

TIFFIN, Ohio – The University of Olivet men's basketball team fell to John Carroll (Ohio) University, 100-96, in its first game at the 2025 Ron Linhart Classic, hosted by Heidelberg (Ohio) University and played at Seiberling Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivet built a five-point lead, 12-7, in the first three minutes of the game. The Blue Streaks came back with a 11-2 spurt to take a four-point lead, 18-14, at the 14:26 mark. The Comets made two free throws to make the score 18-16 to break a two-minute scoreless stretch for both teams. Olivet then went ahead by one point, 22-21, with 11:17 left until halftime.
- John Carroll responded with a 14-7 run to gain a six-point cushion, 35-29. The Comets nailed back-to-back three-pointers to even the score at 35-35. The Blue Streaks ended the half with a 15-2 run to lead by 13 points, 50-37, at the intermission.
- Olivet chipped away at its deficit and got it down to three points, 56-53, at the 15:36 mark. John Carroll extended its lead to as many as 18 points, 80-62, with 8:30 remaining in the game. The four-point difference at the end of the game was the smallest lead for the Blue Streaks.
- For the game, the Comets made 34 baskets, including 15 three-pointers, compared to 32 baskets and 12 triples for John Carroll. One difference in the game was the Blue Streaks canned 24-of-32 free throws to 13-of-14 for Olivet. John Carroll also committed 13 less turnovers, 24 to 11.
FOR THE COMETS
- Junior Nathan Richardson had a team-best 17 points and four steals.
- Junior Conner Schipper posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. He also blocked four shots.
- Senior Evan Honnen drained four three-pointers for 12 points.
- Freshman Alex Genuise added 11 points.
- Sophomore Porter Kretschman contributed 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
COACH'S QUOTE
"Some day when we figure out how to play for 40 minutes the way we played the last 3-4 minutes, we could be really really good," said Olivet head coach Sam Hargraves. "Credit to John Carroll for showing our guys how to play extremely hard for 40 minutes."
