UOlivet loses to Rose-Hulman, 74-65; Richardson named to all-tournament team

HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's basketball team fell to Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology, 74-65, on day two of the Hope College / Glenn Van Wieren Classic today at the DeVos Fieldhouse. For his performance, sophomore Nathan Richardson was selected to the all-tournament team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets led by three points, 8-5, at the 16:34 mark of the opening half. The Fightin' Engineers answered with a 10-4 run to take their own three-point lead. Rose-Hulman's advantage grew to as many as 12 points, 42-30, with 1:55 left before halftime. Olivet scored the last two points to trail by 10 points at the break.
- The Fightin' Engineers netted the first five points of the second half to take their largest lead of the game, 47-32. The Comets responded with a 13-3 spurt to cut their deficit down to five points, 50-45, at the 13:27 mark. Rose-Hulman used another large run to extend its lead back to 10 points on two occasions. After the second time at 62-52, Olivet put five straight points on the scoreboard. The Comets did not get any closer for the remainder of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Conner Schipper led Olivet with 16 points.
- Richardson scored 13 points and recorded seven assists.
- Senior Nolan Finkbeiner had 12 points.
- Freshman Porter Kretschman contributed nine points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.
UP NEXT
- Olivet travels to Westerville, Ohio, on Sunday and Monday, December 29-30, for the Smokey Ballenger Classic. The Comets play the host Otterbein University Cardinals on Sunday at 4 p.m., and Denison (Ohio) University on Monday at 6 p.m. Otterbein announced that in lieu of tickets, admission is a non-perishable food item or cash donation.
