Schipper earns MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Freshman center Conner Schipper from The University of Olivet has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

Schipper, a graduate of Zeeland High School, posted averages of 16.0 points, 22.5 rebounds and 7.5 blocks in two games last week. He began the week by recording a triple-double with 11 points, 25 rebounds and 10 blocks in a 74-69 overtime loss Wednesday night to Adrian College. Schipper closed the week with a double-double (21 points and 16 rebounds) in a 64-56 win Saturday over Albion College. He also tallied five blocks, five assists and three steals in the win.

For the two games, Schipper made 13-of-21 baskets (61.9 percent) and 5-of-8 free throws (62.5 percent). Of the 41 total rebounds, only five came on the offensive glass. Schipper had just five turnovers in 80 minutes of playing time.

Schipper and the Comets travel to Grand Rapids Wednesday for a game against Calvin University, tipping-off at 7:30 p.m.
