Men’s basketball team loses to MIAA leader Calvin, 73-57
The Olivet College men’s basketball team ended the first half of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 73-57 loss to Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team ended the first half of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with a 73-57 loss to Calvin College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
The Comets got off to a fast start with two three-pointers sandwiched around a Calvin basket to take a 6-2 lead. The Knights responded with a 6-0 run to take an 8-6 lead. Olivet tied the game at 8-8. Calvin seized a 16-11 lead before the Comets came back to tie the game two more times at 22-22 and 24-24.
The Knights scored four straight points and never looked back. Olivet closed to within one point, 30-29. Calvin led by only four points, 37-33, at halftime. Twice in the second half, the Knights led by 16 points.
Sophomore Blake Krum (Schoolcraft) posted his first collegiate double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds, to lead the Comets. Senior Dakotah Ellis (Birch Run) was next with 13 points.
Calvin, ranked No. 17 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, was led by Tom Snikkers' game-high 21 points. Bryan Powell came off the bench to score 15, while Tyler Kruis and Tyler Dykstra finished with 13 and 12, respectively.
Olivet will travel to play Albion College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
