McClary becomes Olivet’s all-time leading scorer in 74-61 win at Alma
Michael McClary made a layup with 2:43 left in the game to become the all-time men’s basketball scoring leader at Olivet College, and the Comets defeated Alma College, 74-61, this evening at the Art Smith Arena in Alma.
ALMA, Mich. -- Senior Michael McClary (Bellaire) made a layup with 2:43 left in the game to become the all-time men's basketball scoring leader at Olivet College, and the Comets defeated Alma College, 74-61, this evening at the Art Smith Arena in Alma. McClary finished the game with a game-high 28 points to raise his career total to 1,647 points and pass Mike Maciasz, who had 1,642.
Olivet scored the first three points of the game on a triple by senior Joe Post (Olivet) and never looked back. The Comets extended their lead to as many as 15 points on two occasions in the first half. The last time was 30-15 when senior Cameron Bramer (Olivet) drained a three-pointer at the 3:07 mark. Olivet settled for a 14-point lead, 34-20, at halftime.
In the second half, the Comets stretched their lead to as many as 17 points, 43-26, after Post made two free throws with 16:34 left. The Scots then scored 24 of the next 36 points to trim their deficit down to five points, and they did not get any closer the rest of the game.
McClary played nearly the entire game, making 12-of-21 baskets and 4-of-4 free throws for his 28 points. He has now scored more than 20 points in 13-of-18 games this season. Post contributed a career-high 14 points, while dishing out a game-high six assists. Junior Eric Mack (Eastpointe/Roseville) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. Junior Dustin Orns (Tekonsha/Marshall) finished with a season-high eight points.
Greg Silverthorn led the Scots with 17 points, and Tommy Erickson joined him in double figures with 14. Kevin Ginther and Brett Lackie had six rebounds apiece.
Olivet will make the short trip to play Albion College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
