Men’s basketball team ends regular season with 71-47 win over Alma
The men’s basketball team celebrated Senior Day and ended the regular season portion of its schedule with a 71-47 victory over Alma College this afternoon at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team celebrated Senior Day and ended the regular season portion of its schedule with a 71-47 victory over Alma College this afternoon at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
After a 2-2 tie, Olivet scored 14 straight points over a four minute, 44 second span to take a 16-2 lead. The Comets kept the defensive pressure up, building their lead to as many as 16 points on two occasions. The last time was 27-11, with 43 seconds left before halftime. Olivet settled for a 27-13 lead at the break. In the second half, the Scots would get no closer than 13 points and the Comets' biggest lead was 27 points.
Senior Michael McClary (Bellaire) led all players with 20 points and eight rebounds. Junior Jaren Edsall (Whitehall) contributed 11 points, including three baskets from behind the arc. Junior Eric Mack (Eastpointe/Roseville) scored 10 points and dished out a team-high seven assists. Senior Joe Post (Olivet) finished with five assists against one turnover.
Greg Silverthorn was the only Alma player in double figures with 10 points.
The Comets now turn their focus to the 2011 MIAA Tournament. They will host Adrian College in the first round on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
NOTE: McClary finishes his career with 995 points in MIAA play. That total is the sixth most in league history. His 568 rebounds in MIAA play is the fourth most in league history.
