Three Olivet College men's basketball players have earned 2010 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors. Highlighting the group is junior Michael McClary (Bellaire), who was named Most Valuable Player and earned first-team honors. Juniors Andre Evans (Muskegon/Muskegon Heights) and Nathan Jennings (Grant) are second-team selections. All-MIAA honors are based on a player's statistics during the 14-game league schedule.
McClary is just the third player in Olivet history to be the MIAA's MVP in men's basketball. The other two were Mike Maciasz in 1972, and Randy Morrison in 1983 and 1984.
McClary was the MIAA scoring champion at 21.9 ppg. He is the fourth player in school history to be the league's scoring champion. McClary was also first in rebounding (11.0 rpg), defensive rebounds (8.36 rpg) and minutes (33.0 mpg). He also ranked among the league leaders in field goal percentage (third, 53.0%), offensive rebounds (third, 37), blocked shots (fourth, 25) and free throw percentage (eighth, 78.9%).
For the entire season, McClary averaged a league-best 19.8 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. He broke Olivet's single-season record for field goals made (222) and attempted (430), while narrowly missing the record for points (534). The record is 546 points by Jeff Bell during the 1996-97 season.
Evans averaged 12.4 points and was first with 69 assists. Jennings finished with 12.5 scoring and 5.6 rebounding averages. Overall, Jennings posted a 13.5 scoring average. Evans had 139 assists to go along with 12.1 ppg.
Led by third-year Head Coach Gene Gifford, the Comets finished the season with a 14-13 overall record and tied for fourth in the MIAA with a 8-6 record. Olivet also advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals for only the third time since the inception of the tournament in 1992.
