Dozie named MIAA Co-Player of the Week
Olivet College senior center Gerald Dozie (Detroit/Southeastern) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for men’s basketball.
Olivet College senior center Gerald Dozie (Detroit/Southeastern) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for men's basketball. Dozie shares the honor with Greg Immink from Hope College.
Dozie posted back-to-back double-double performances for the Comets last week. In a 73-56 loss to Albion College Jan. 25, he was credited with 16 points and 12 rebounds. In a 75-65 win over Alma College Jan. 28, Dozie scored 23 points and tied his career-high with 18 rebounds. Playing 73 of the possible 80 minutes, he made 16-of-30 field goals and seven-of-13 free throws. Dozie's 30 rebounds included nine off the offensive glass.
For the season, Dozie leads the team and is second in the MIAA in scoring (15.4 ppg) and rebounding (10.3 rpg). He is shooting 52.3 percent (127-of-243) from the floor.
Dozie and the Comets (6-13, 2-6 MIAA) are back in action Wednesday, Feb. 1, when they travel to play Hope College. Tip-off from the DeVos Fieldhouse is 8 p.m.
