Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Kalamazoo College, 94-76
The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Kalamazoo College, 94-76, today at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Kalamazoo College, 94-76, today at the Upton Center.
The Fighting Comets (11-12, 3-7 MIAA) held a 13-12 lead at the 11:06 mark of the first half. The Hornets then went on a run to take their biggest lead of the half at 30-22 with 3:53 remaining in the half. Kalamazoo also led, 30-22 at halftime. In the second half, Olivet managed to pull within seven points on two occasions. The Hornets extended their lead to 22 points with 2:24 left.
Freshman De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge High School) paced the Comets with 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore center Derek Cox (Niles High School) scored a season-high 11 points on five-of-seven shooting from the floor. Junior point guard Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School) also had 11 points.
Dirk Rhinehart scored 23 points to lead the Hornets (18-4, 7-3). Mike King came off the bench to record a double-double, 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Olivet will end the 2002-03 regular season next week with a pair of games. On Wednesday night, the Comets will host MIAA co-leader Hope College at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, they will travel to play MIAA rival Albion College at 3 p.m.
