Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Adrian College, 84-79, in Double Overtime

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Adrian College, 84-79 in double overtime.
Olivet (10-11, 2-6 MIAA) trailed by as many 11 points on two occasions in the first half. At halftime, Adrian had a 33-28 lead. In the second half, the Bulldogs extended their lead to 10 points. The Fighting Comets chipped away at their lead and led by two points twice, including 66-64 with 2:55 left in regulation. Steve Brooks made two free throws with 54 seconds left to send the game into overtime tied at 66-66.
In the first overtime, neither team led by more than two points. In the final minute, Adrian missed two free throws and Olivet missed a free throw and two jumpers that could have won the game. In the second extra period, the Bulldogs made eight free throws and outscored the Comets, 11-6.
Junior guard Matt Brawley (Niles High School) paced Olivet with 17 points, which included five three-pointers. Sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) and freshman forward Steve Johnson (Detroit/Murray Wright High School) each scored 15 points. Senior forward Patrick Dermeyer (Chase/ Reed City High School) had 11 points.
Steve Brooks scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Bulldogs (9-11, 4-5). Dan Walter scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
Olivet returns home to face Alma College on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
