Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Hope, 99-90
The Olivet College men's basketball team had six players score in double figures but it was not enough as the Fighting Comets fell to Hope College, 99-90, before 2525 fans today at the Holland Civic Center.
HOLLAND, MI. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team had six players score in double figures but it was not enough as the Fighting Comets fell to Hope College, 99-90, before 2525 fans today at the Holland Civic Center.
After a 4-4 tie, Olivet (10-8, 2-3 MIAA) trailed by as many as 16 points. The Comets were able to cut the deficit to seven points twice with the last time being at 43-36 with 47 seconds remaining until halftime. In the second half, the Flying Dutchmen extended their lead to 20 points. The Comets then fought back and closed to within nine points on three occasions in the final minute.
Sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) led Olivet with 20 points on nine-of-10 shooting from the floor. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Matt Brawley (Niles High School) came off the bench and scored 13 points. Junior guard Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School), senior forward Patrick Dermeyer (Chase/Reed City High School) and freshman forward De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge High School) had 11 points apiece. Senior forward Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) contributed 10 points.
Jeff Carlson paced the Flying Dutchmen (14-3, 4-1) with 20 points. Greg Immink had 16 points, including nine-of-10 free throws.
Olivet will next play on Wednesday, Jan. 29 when it hosts Albion College at 7:30 p.m.
