Fighting Comets Defeat Alma, 95-75

ALMA, MI. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Alma College, 95-75, today at Cappaert Gymnasium.
After a 25-25 tie, the Fighting Comets (10-6, 2-1 MIAA) broke the game open with a 23-7 run to take a 48-32 lead with 14 seconds left in the first half. In the second half, Olivet led by as many as 27 points at 66-39 when sophomore Ronnie Pearson (Holly High School) made a layup.
Senior forward Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix High School) led Olivet with 19 points. Junior guard Matt Brawley (Niles High School) added 17 points, which included five three-pointers. Sophomore guard Will Lee (Lansing Everett High School) and Pearson also scored in double figures with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Pearson and senior forward Patrick Dermeyer (Chase/Reed City High School) grabbed five rebounds a piece.
Rob Taylor scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Scots (1-15, 0-4 MIAA). Cory Heitsch contributed 18 points and Mike Borgert added 11.
Olivet will next be in action on Wednesday, Jan. 22 when it travels to play Kalamazoo College at 7:30 p.m.
