Fighting Comets Open MIAA Play With a 94-72 Loss Against Calvin College

OLIVET, MI. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play today with a 94-72 loss against Calvin College at the Upton Center.
The Fighting Comets (8-6, 0-1 MIAA) trailed the Knights, 47-26, at halftime. In the second half, Olivet cut the deficit to 15 points on two occasions with the last time being 81-66 with 5:19 remaining when sophomore center Derek Cox (Niles High School) nailed a jumper.
Sophomore guard Thaddeus Mitchner (Flint Central High School) came off the bench to lead the Comets with 15 points on a perfect seven-of-seven shooting from the floor. Freshman De'Andre Pruitt (River Rouge High School) contributed 13 points and sophomore guard Will Lee (Lansing Everett High School) added 11 points, including three three-point baskets.
Jeremy Veenstra led the Knights (9-5, 2-0 MIAA) with a game-high 21 points. Kevin Broene added 16, Joel Hoekstra had 11 and Rob Dykstra and Jeremy Burgin each scored 10.
Olivet will next be in action on Wednesday, Jan. 15 when it hosts Adrian College at 7:30 p.m.
