Comets Defeat Marian (Ind.), 77-73, in First Round of Spring Arbor Tournament
The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Marian (Ind.) College, 77-73, tonight in the first round of the Spring Arbor University Holiday Classic. With the win, the Fighting Comets now have a 5-2 overall record and advance to tomorrow's championship game against Spring Arbor.
SPRING ARBOR, MI. -- The Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Marian (Ind.) College, 77-73, tonight in the first round of the Spring Arbor University Holiday Classic. With the win, the Fighting Comets now have a 5-2 overall record and advance to tomorrow's championship game against Spring Arbor. Spring Arbor defeated Marygrove, 74-67, in the other first round game. Marian now has a 2-1 overall mark.
In the win, senior forward Michael Dyson (Kalamazoo/ Loy Norrix High School) led four Comets in double figures with 17 points. Joining Dyson in double figures were sophomore back-up guard Will Lee (Lansing Everett High School) with 14, junior guards Travis Schellhammer (Grand Ledge High School) and Matt Brawley (Niles High School) with 12 and 11, respectively. Senior forward Patrick Dermeyer (Chase Reed City High School) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and scored eight points.
In the game, the Comets blocked eight Marian shots, including three each by Dyson and Dermeyer. Olivet also made 54.9 percent of its shots, including 10 three-pointers.
Zach Robbins led Marian with a game-high 22 points. Jeremy Budreau had 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Following its game tomorrow, Olivet will play on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when it hosts University of Michigan-Dearborn in a non-league game at the Upton Center at 7:30 p.m.
