UOlivet’s Carney named MIAA Pitcher of the Year
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet senior Bryan Carney has been named the 2026 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Year for baseball. He also earned First Team All-MIAA honors. Both honors are based on a player's performance during the conference schedule.
Carney made six starts against league opponents and posted a 3-2 record. He had a 1.34 ERA across 40.1 innings. Carney led the MIAA in strikeouts (70), opponents' batting average (.167) and strikeouts looking (21).
"This is an incredible achievement that Bryan accomplished," said Olivet head coach Santiago Mendez. "He was dominant and gave us an opportunity to win the game every time he stepped on the mound for us. This award is the epitome of the hard work he has put in, and it is well deserved."
For the full 2026 season, Carney went 7-3 in 11 starts with a 1.35 ERA over 73.1 innings. He struck out an Olivet single season record 122 batters, while issuing only 17 walks. Notably, all 11 earned runs he allowed this season were in his three pitching losses; in his other eight outings, he surrendered only two unearned runs. His 122 strikeouts rank second among all NCAA pitchers.
A two-time All-MIAA selection, Carney concludes his Olivet career as the program's all-leader in strikeouts with 288. He also ranks third in innings pitched (243.2) and fourth in both wins (15) and ERA (3.29).
