UOlivet falls to Aquinas, 4-2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team was on the wrong end of a 4-2 final score to Aquinas College in a non-conference game this afternoon at the Meijer Sports Complex.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Aquinas 4, Olivet 2

- Records: Olivet 15-16 overall, Aquinas 24-21 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game was a pitcher's duel for the first seven innings. The Saints scored the lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Olivet had at least one base runner in six of the first seven innings.
- The Comets took a 2-1 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the top of eighth. With the bases loaded, a throwing error by the pitcher allowed two runners to score.
- Aquinas regained the lead in the bottom half of the eighth inning. A base hit, hit by pitch and walk filled the bases. The next batter hit a single to score two runs and a passed ball scored the third run.
- After two outs were recorded in the ninth inning, a single and walk put two runners on base for Olivet. A strikeout ended the threat.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet totaled four hits. All singles by sophomore Daniel Black, senior Dallas Gordon, freshman Ryan Wiggins and freshman Braxton Williams.
- Freshman Wyatt Ball stole two bases.
- Junior Charlie Quilliam started on the mound. He allowed a run on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven over five innings.
- Freshman Jakeb McDonald was charged with the loss, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits over two and two-third innings.
- Freshman Gavin Azzopardi recorded a strikeout for the final out in the eighth inning.
UP NEXT
- The Comets play Adrian College in a key Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series. On Friday at 4 p.m., Olivet faces the Bulldogs at Nicolay Field in Adrian for the opening game. The series then moves to the Cutler Athletic Complex on Saturday for a doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
