Carney named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for baseball
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet senior pitcher Bryan Carney has been voted the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week. He has earned this honor three times this season.
Carney broke the UOlivet record with 18 strikeouts over eight innings in the Comets' 6-0 shutout win at Albion College. He gave up two hits and three walks over the seven innings. Carney threw 129 pitches, with 84 strokes. Of his 18 strikeouts, nine were called a third strike. In addition, Carney broke the UOlivet season and career strikeout records in the game.
For the entire season, Carney leads the MIAA with a 6-2 record and 1.18 ERA over 61 innings pitched. He has struck out 103 batters and opponents are hitting only .154 against him. Carney's 103 strikeouts rank second among all NCAA pitchers. In MIAA games only, he has a 0.96 ERA and 51 strikeouts over 28 innings.
The Comets are in action right now against Albion College. Olivet plays its final non-conference game of the regular season tomorrow at Aquinas College. The Comets then battle Adrian College in a three-game MIAA series this Friday and Saturday. The series starts with a nine-inning game on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. from Nicolay Field in Adrian and shifts to Olivet for a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
