OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team came up just short in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader against Calvin University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Knights won the first game, 5-3, in 11 innings and completed the sweep with a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- The Knights led 1-0 behind a run in the top of the first inning. The Comets evened the score in the third inning before going ahead, 3-1, after scoring two runs in the fourth inning. Calvin pushed across two runs in the seventh inning. The first run was on a solo homer and the second was with a two-out hit. Olivet left the winning run stranded at third in the eighth inning. The Knights took advantage of a Comet error to score two runs in the 11th inning.
- For the game, Olivet recorded nine hits and left 10 runners on base.
- Junior EJ Suggitt was 3-for-3 and scored a run.
- Senior Tyler Duncan had two hits, including a double.
- Junior Logan Lewis was the losing pitcher in relief of the starter, freshman Dawson Sherman. Lewis allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks over the final four and two-third innings. Sherman gave up three runs on six hits and three hits over the first six and one-third innings.
GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- The Knights scored their first run in the fourth inning on a throwing error. Calvin added an insurance run in the fifth on a solo home run by Thomas Paplawsky.
- The teams combined for seven hits, four for the Knights and three for the Comets.
- Olivet's hits were singles by Suggitt, senior Mikey Kuzara and senior Owen Smith.
- Freshman Wyatt Ball was tagged with the pitching loss, as he allowed two runs on three hits over the first five innings. Junior Austin Wittrock pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
UP NEXT
- With rain in the forecast for next week, the Comets and Trine (Ind.) University have agreed to change the schedule for the final two games of the series. The teams will play one game tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m., and the last game on Tuesday, April 14, at 4 p.m.
