Carney named MIAA Pitcher of the Week
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The University of Olivet senior Bryan Carney has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week for baseball.
Carney earned the pitching win after tossing a complete game, three-hitter in the Comets' 3-0 win at Wilmington (Ohio) College. He struck out 14 batters and allowed zero walks, while throwing 90 pitches (70 strikes). For the season, Carney has a 2-0 record and has not allowed a run. He has 31 strikeouts and given up only three hits over 14 innings.
"Winning this honor is a reflection on the work Bryan puts in when nobody is watching," said Olivet head coach Santiago Mendez. "He has been attacking the zone and trusting his stuff to work for him. He sets the tone for our team every time he is on the mound for us."
The Comets head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for six games at the Ripken Baseball Tournament. Olivet's first game is Sunday, March 8, against Hilbert (N.Y.) College, starting at 1:30 p.m.
