Baseball team loses both games of doubleheader against Hope
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College, 17-2 and 12-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College, 17-2 and 12-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Records: Olivet 6-18 overall, 1-9 MIAA; Hope 14-6 overall, 5-2 MIAA
- Hope pushed across one run in the first inning, three runs in the second, two runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth for a 7-0 lead.
- The Comets used four straight hits – double, single, double and single – to score two runs in the bottom half of the fifth.
- The Flying Dutchmen then sent 14 batters to the plate and scored 10 runs in the seventh.
- Olivet had five hits.
- Senior Matt Fisher and freshman Blake Hawkins each hit a double.
- Junior James Harris, senior John Kortz and junior Sylas Woll each had a single.
- Senior Hunter Henson suffered the pitching loss after giving up the first seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits over six innings.
- Hope pounded out 18 base hits, with 14 singles, two doubles, one triple and one home run.
- Brant Kym was 4-for-5 with four RBI.
- Out of the leadoff spot in the lineup, Spencer Cable tallied three hits, while scoring four runs and driving in three.
- Robbie Stuursma had two hits and collected three RBI.
- Owen Krizan went the distance on the mound to earn the win.
- The Flying Dutchmen played three runs in the second inning and one run in the third to go up 4-0.
- Olivet scored its lone run in the fifth inning.
- Hope used three hits, three walks and three hit batters to score six runs in the seventh.
- The Flying Dutchmen capped their scoring with a two-run eighth inning.
- Olivet was held to five hits, all singles.
- Fisher, Hawkins, Woll, and seniors Matt Hewitt and Logan Sella recorded the hits.
- Sophomore Gabriel Kirck drove in the only run.
- Sophomore Keegan Kuha was tagged with the pitching loss after allowing three runs on three hits over the first two innings.
- Four relief pitchers threw in the game and combined to surrender nine runs (eight earned) on six hits.
- Hope tallied nine hits, including two doubles.
- Nolan Gardner and Andrew Gilpin each had two hits.
- Gilpin drove in a team-best three runs.
- Kainan Bayn did not have a hit but scored a team-leading three runs.
- Matt Plaehn pitched seven innings to pick-up the win. He allowed an unearned run on five hits, while striking out six.
- Branden Rosenfeld pitched a perfect eighth inning.
- Olivet welcomes Albion College to the Cutler Athletic Complex next Tuesday, April 19, for a doubleheader, starting at 2 p.m.
