SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Wittenberg University, 11-1 and 11-4, in a non-league doubleheader today at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Olivet College baseball team was swept by Wittenberg University, 11-1 and 11-4, in a non-league doubleheader today at Carleton Davidson Stadium.

- The Tigers scored three runs in the first, second and fifth innings, and two runs in the sixth inning.
- The Comets' lone run came to lead off the seventh inning on a solo home run by freshman Quartaze Phillips.
- Olivet had six hits in the game.
- Junior Matt Hewitt went 2-for-3 with two singles.
- Junior Ben Compton and freshman Americo Taliercio each hit a double.
- Senior Zac Walter suffered the pitching loss after giving up six runs on six hits over two innings.
- Wittenberg totaled 11 hits in the win.
- Jack Hollinshead was 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and five RBI.
- Jack Siefert had two hits to go along with two runs and two RBI.
- Tanner Griggs went the first six innings on the mound to earn the win. He allowed five hits, struck out five and did not walk a batter.
- The Tigers led 4-0 behind two runs in the third and sixth innings.
- The Comets closed the gap to 4-3 with a three-run top half of seventh inning. Senior Logan Sella led off with a double down the right field line. Sella came around to score on junior James Harris' single down the left field line. After another base hit and walk loaded the bases, Harris scored on an RBI-fielder's choice off the bat of freshman Alex Curry. Senior Matt Fisher scored when Curry was thrown out trying to steal second base.
- Wittenberg answered with four runs in their half of the seventh and three more runs in the eighth to go up 11-3.
- Olivet ended the scoring with a single run in the ninth inning when Harris scampered home on a wild pitch.
- Olivet finished the game with five hits.
- Harris and Sella each had two hits.
- Harris scored two runs.
- Sophomore Brendan Redding was charged with the pitching loss after allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits over the first six innings.
- The Tigers registered 10 hits.
- Gage Carpenter was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
- Chase Wisner drove in three runs.
- Matt Moore did not have a hit but scored three runs.
- Joe Horoszko was the winning pitcher after yielding three runs on four hits over six plus innings. He had six strikeouts and one walk.
- Nick Cunningham and Matt Shanor combined to allow one hit and one run over the final three innings.
- Olivet makes its long-waited home debut next Friday, March 19, when it hosts Trine (Ind.) University for a single game at 3:30 p.m. The Comets last played a home game inside the Cutler Athletic Complex on May 4, 2019.
