OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College baseball team was swept at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Alma College, 5-3 and 9-0, today at Klenk Park in Alma.
In the first game, the Scots would score all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Olivet got two runs back in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, an error by the Alma third baseman allowed two runs to score. The Comets trimmed their deficit to two runs with a single tally in the sixth.
For the game, Olivet out-hit the Scots, 9-5. Freshman Chase Carter (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Catholic) was a perfect 3-for-3 with two singles, one double and one run scored. Freshman Jonny Zawacki (Alpena) had two hits. Senior Brad Beisiegel (Royal Oak) suffered the pitching loss, giving up three earned runs and striking out four.
In the second game, Alma pushed across three runs in the second, one in the fourth and five in the fifth. The Comets had only one base runner reach third base. Olivet was held to five hits, four singles by four different players and a double by Zawacki. Freshman Jake Ball (Cadillac) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings.
Olivet will take a break from MIAA play Wednesday when it hosts Rochester College in a rescheduled doubleheader. First pitch from game one will be 2 p.m.
