Shelhart and Strain selected to the 2004 All-MIAA Baseball first-team
Freshman first baseman Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator High School) and senior outfielder Ricky Strain (Livonia Churchill High School) have been selected to the 2004 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball first-team.
Freshman first baseman Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator High School) and senior outfielder Ricky Strain (Livonia Churchill High School) have been selected to the 2004 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Baseball first-team. All-MIAA honors are based on a player stats in league games.
Shelhart ranked sixth in the MIAA with a .375 batting average (21-of-56) and tied for second with 17 RBIs. Strain led the MIAA with a .492 on-base percentage and three triples. He was second with a .388 batting average (19-of-49) and .612 slugging percentage. Defensively, Strain did not make an error in 20 chances.
Senior pitchers D.J. Celetti (Sault Ste. Marie, Canada/Notre Dame) and Josh Kellogg (Morley/Stanwood High School), freshman catcher/designated hitter Nick McIntosh (Petoskey High School), senior second baseman Joe Richards (Galesburg/Augusta High School) and junior shortstop Ben Thomas (Kalamazoo Comstock High School) earned coaches' honorable mention honors.
Under the direction of Head Coach Carlton Hardy, the Fighting Comets finished the 2004 season with a 16-22 overall record and 8-10 MIAA mark.
