Baseball players sweep MIAA awards
Olivet College freshman first baseman Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week, and senior Josh Kellogg (Morley Stanwood High School) has been selected as the MIAA Pitcher of the Week.
Olivet College freshman first baseman Chris Shelhart (Rolling Meadows, Ill./St. Viator High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week, and senior Josh Kellogg (Morley Stanwood High School) has been selected as the MIAA Pitcher of the Week.
Shelhart batted .417 (five-of-12) with seven RBIs as the Fighting Comets won two of three games at Alma College last Friday and Saturday, April 9-10. He scored three runs and had a double in the series. Kellogg pitched a complete game five-hitter in Olivet's 9-5 win over Alma. He allowed one earned run while striking out 12 and walking two.
For the season, Shelhart leads the team in hitting with a .382 batting average. He ranks third with 21 hits, five doubles, .509 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage. Kellogg has a 2-2 record and 3.22 ERA in 36 and one-third innings of work.
Following today's non-conference game at Aquinas College, the Comets (11-14, 3-3 MIAA) will host Calvin College for a three-game series this Friday-Saturday, April 16-17. Friday's nine-inning game will start at 4 p.m., followed by two seven-inning contests on Saturday at 1 p.m.
