Baseball team splits doubleheader at Adrian
The Olivet College baseball team opened its 2004 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule with a doubleheader split against Adrian College at Riverside Park in Adrian. The Fighting Comets won the first game, 3-2, and fell in the nightcap, 2-0.

The two teams will conclude the MIAA series tomorrow, March 30, with a nine-inning game at 3 p.m.
In the first game, the Bulldogs (8-7, 1-1 MIAA) scored a run in the first inning. Olivet took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when junior Bo Ford (Redford/Warren Mott High School) hit a two-run home run. The Comets (6-10, 1-1 MIAA) added an unearned run in the third inning before Adrian closed out the scoring with a run in the fifth inning.
At the plate, sophomore first baseman Stan Cieslak (Troy Avondale High School) had two base hits. On the mound, senior D.J. Celetti (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Notre Dame) picked-up the victory. He pitched four innings, allowing four base hits and two runs (one earned). In relief, senior Josh Kellogg (Morley Stanwood High School) pitched three innings and earned his first save of the season.
The Comets stranded four runners on base and were limited to two hits in the nightcap. Senior centerfielder Beau Locker (Coldwater/Union City High School) and junior shortstop Ben Thomas (Kalamazoo/Comstock Park High School) had a hit apiece. Freshman Zach Langford (Marshall High School) suffered the loss after pitching five and two-thirds innings. He gave up eight base hits and one earned run.
Following tomorrow's game, Olivet is next in action on Thursday, April 1, when it travels for a non-conference doubleheader at Rochester College. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
