Baseball team falls to Concordia, 6-4
The Olivet College baseball team fell to non-league foe Concordia University, 6-4, this afternoon at Cardinal Field in Ann Arbor.
The Olivet College baseball team fell to non-league foe Concordia University, 6-4, this afternoon at Cardinal Field in Ann Arbor.
The Cardinals (6-8) led 3-0 after five innings. The Fighting Comets (5-9) rallied to tie the game at 3-3 with two runs in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh. Concordia took the lead right back with two runs in its half of the seventh inning. Olivet tallied a run in the eighth, and the Cardinals added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.
Senior Beau Locker (Coldwater/Union City High School) led the Comets with a two-run home run. In addition, junior Chris Stambek (Decatur High School) and Bo Ford (Redford/Warren Mott High School) collected two hits apiece. Stambek hit a RBI triple in the seventh inning to score Ford, who reached base on a double.
Senior Josh Kellogg (Morley Stanwood High School) started the game on the mound and pitched two innings. He allowed three base hits and struck out three. Freshman Brian Schaeffer (Mason High School) relieved him and tossed four innings. Freshman Kyle Goode (Dexter High School) suffered the loss after pitching one inning and gave up three earned runs. Junior Dustin Bolt (St. Joseph High School) finished the game and allowed two hits in one inning of work.
The Comets are next in action this Friday-Saturday, March 26-27, when they open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at Adrian College. On Friday, the teams will play a single nine-inning game at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
