Comets of the Week - February 3, 2025
The Co-Comet of the Week is sophomore Porter Kretschman, of Coopersville, and graduate of Coopersville High School. Kretschman averaged a double-double in leading the men’s basketball team to two wins. In a 69-56 victory on Wednesday night at Alma College, he scored 17 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. In a 74-61 win on Saturday at Kalamazoo College, Kretschman had 17 points and six rebounds. For the week, he posted a 52.4 field goal percentage (11-of-21) and 80.0 free throw percentage (12-of-18), while dishing out 13 assists and recording eight steals.
The Co-Comet of the Week is sophomore Gideon Loewen, of Farmington Hills, and graduate of Farmington High School. Loewen recorded a pin to help the wrestling team defeat Alma College, 51-0, last Tuesday. His pin came with 41 seconds left in the first period.
The Co-Comet of the Week is senior Emily Norkowski, of Fife Lake, and graduate of Forest Area High School. Norkowski broke the UOlivet record in the triple jump at the Saginaw Valley State University / Jet’s Pizza Invitational. The 34 foot, 7-1/2 inch mark was achieved on her second attempt. Norkowski now holds the school indoor and outdoor record in the triple jump. She also finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles. During the preliminaries, Norkowski ran the fastest time in the MIAA this winter at 9.41 seconds.
