Comets of the Week - November 18, 2024
The Male Co-Comet of the Week is senior Treyton Gabrielson, of Kalamazoo, and graduate of Portage Northern High School. Gabrielson was first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.28), second in the 100-yard individual medley (1:00.97) and third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.95) against Anderson (Ind.) University in a non-conference dual meet.
The Male Co-Comet of the Week is senior Emmett Kettel, of Columbus, and graduate of Richmond High School. Kettel had a 4-1 record to finish third in the 133-pound weight class at the Albion College Invitational. He began the day with a 20-3 technical fall and 17-9 major decision before losing his semifinal match, 19-5. Kettel came back to pin his last two opponents, including a four minute and 28-second fall over Cade Odrobina from Albion in the third-place match. Odrobina is No. 6 in the most recent NWCA Region 5 rankings and qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships.
The Female Comet of the Week is freshman Bethany Stowell, of Eaton Rapids, and graduate of Eaton Rapids High School. Stowell won the 100-yard individual medley (1:07.00) and was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:25.10) at a non-conference swimming dual meet against Anderson (Ind.) University. Both times were season bests for her. Stowell also led off the 200-yard medley relay, which finished second in 2:05.13.
