Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - November 8, 2021
For a second straight week, the Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Cortaveon Barnett, of Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduate of Lawrence Central High School. Barnett was responsible for 288 yards and three touchdowns in the football team’s 35-28 win over Adrian College. He had 27 carries for 222 yards and two touchdowns and two catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Barnett’s touchdown runs went for 51 and 10 yards, and the touchdown reception covered 54 yards. The 222 rushing yards give him 994 yards for the season and is now the NCAA Division III leader at rushing yards per carry at 9.56.
The second Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Justin Carnahan, of Corunna, and graduate of New Lothrop High School. Wrestling at 184 pounds, Carnahan posted a 4-1 record to finish in third-place at the Michigan State Open. All four of his wins were against NCAA Division I wrestlers. Carnahan lost his first match before bouncing back to win 17-0 over Devonjae Hudson from Northern Illinois, pinning Joseph Lyons from Cleveland State with one second left in the first period and defeated Mitch Hutmacher from Purdue, 12-6. In the third-place match, Carnahan pinned Gavin Bell from Ohio State in 38 seconds.
