Volleyball team defeated by Calvin in three sets
The volleyball team was defeated by MIAA co-leader and nationally-ranked Calvin in three sets today at VanNoord Arena in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Olivet College volleyball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) co-leader and nationally-ranked Calvin College in three sets (25-12, 25-20, 25-14) today at VanNoord Arena in Grand Rapids. The Knights are ranked No. 9 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 poll.
Sophomore Tori King (Ash Grove, Mo.) led Olivet with seven kills. Senior Ellen Schulz (Freeland) along with sophomores Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and Melanie Merchant (St. Joseph) were next with five apiece. Senior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) collected 19 assists, while Gibson topped the defense with seven digs.
The Comets will conclude their regular season schedule next week with four matches, including three against MIAA opponents. On Wednesday night, Olivet hosts Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m., and on Friday night, they welcome Alma College to The Cutler Event Center for a 6:30 p.m. match. On Saturday, the Comets will play Adrian College in a MIAA match, beginning at 11 a.m., followed by a non-conference match against Defiance (Ohio) College.
