Women’s golf team stands ninth after day one of Wash U Invitational
The Olivet College women’s golf team stands in ninth-place after the first round of the Washington (Mo.) University Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. The 16-team field features 10 ranked schools.
MADISON, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team stands in ninth-place after the first round of the Washington (Mo.) University Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill. The 16-team field features 10 ranked schools.
The Comets carded a 331 team. The host Bears, who are ranked No. 1 in the Women's Golf Coaches Association poll, sit in first-place with a tournament-record 300 team score. William Woods (Mo.) University, No. 6 in the NAIA Top 25 poll, is second at 306, followed by No. 9 Rhodes (Tenn.) College, 308; No. 6 DePauw (Ind.) University, 314; and No. 21 Carleton (Minn.) College, 318; round out the top five. Olivet, ranked No. 9, is only two strokes behind Illinois Wesleyan and five behind No. 22 Wittenberg (Ohio) University.
Senior Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) had the Comets' top first-round score with a 78 (41-37). Sophomore Brooke Kastamo (Hartland) was next with an 82 (41-41). Senior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) finished her round in 84 (41-43) strokes. Senior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) posted an 87 (44-43), and sophomore Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) rounded out Olivet's lineup with an 88 (39-49).
Tomorrow's second round gets under way with a 9 a.m. CST shotgun start.
