Indoor track and field teams participate in Trine Invitational
Three school records were broken, as the Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed today at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational in Angola, Indiana.
ANGOLA, Ind. – Three school records were broken, as the Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed today at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational in Angola, Indiana.
Women
Sophomore Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) turned in the top performance for the Olivet women, as she won the long jump with a 5.20m/17'0.75" leap. Her jump was only two centimeters further than the runner-up finisher. Ciaravino also placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.63 seconds. She joined with junior Jenna Mayle (Ionia) and freshmen Lauren Easton (Jackson/Parma Western) and Courtney Reed (Battle Creek/Lakeview) for a third-place in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:57.19.
Also in the field events, junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) was third in both the shot put (11.77m/38'7.5" and weight throw (14.50m/47'7"), setting school records in both events. Freshman Danielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) took sixth in the pole vault (2.74m/8'11.75").
Men
Three Comet men finished in the top eight of the 60-meter dash, led by sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing), who was fourth in 7.16 seconds. Freshman Travon Tatum (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and junior Joe Camble (Lansing/Waverly) were seventh (:7.30) and eighth (:7.36), respectively.
Sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) won his heat and was sixth overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.73 seconds. Freshman Austin Thimler-Coffman (Tekonsha/Union City) finished seventh in the 1,000-meter run, crossing the line in 2:49.50. Olivet'x 4x200-meter relay was second (1:35.60), while the 4x400-meter relay was fourth (3:38.63).
In the field events, Pettway placed third and improved on his own school record in the long jump (6.43m/21'1.25"). Senior Dustin Norton (Carson City/Crystal) finished in seventh-place in the weight throw (12.56m/41'2.5") and eighth-place in the shot put (12.53m/41'1.5").
Olivet will travel to Ohio for the Defiance College Open next Friday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m.
