Wegener places in two events and two runners qualify for finals at MIAA Field Day
Sophomore Sara Wegener (Dimondale/Lansing Catholic) placed in two events and two runners qualified for finals to lead the Olivet College women’s track and field team at the first day of competition at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Sophomore Sara Wegener (Dimondale/Lansing Catholic) placed in two events and two runners qualified for finals to lead the Olivet College women's track and field team at the first day of competition at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
Wegener finished in third-place in the discus throw with a season-best throw of 38.40 meters/126 feet. Despite a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw, she broke her own school record with a 38.09 meter/124 feet, 11 inches toss.
Freshman Brandi Rimmer (Flint/Carman Ainsworth) qualified for the finals in both the 200- and 400-meter dashes. She was sixth fastest in the 200 at 26.76 seconds and seventh fastest in the 400 at 1:00.83. Junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) advanced to tomorrow's finals in the 100-meter hurdles, as she recorded the eighth fastest preliminary time at 17.80 seconds.
In the 400-meter hurdles, senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) narrowly missed qualifying for the finals. She was ninth best in the preliminaries with a time of 1:13.43. Sophomore Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) tied for the sixth-best clearance in the high jump (1.47m/4 feet, 9.75 inches), but a judge's decision prevented her from scoring any team points.
Finals in 11 running events will get underway tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 p.m., while the finals in the three field events will start at 10 a.m.
