Women’s indoor track and field team opens season at GVSU Early Bird Meet
The Olivet College women’s indoor track and field team kicked off its first official varsity season this afternoon with a few athletes competing at the Grand Valley State University Early Bird Meet.
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College women's indoor track and field team kicked off its first official varsity season this afternoon with a few athletes competing at the Grand Valley State University Early Bird Meet.
Five Comets participated in the shot put. Sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) had the top throw in her flight and seventh best overall at 36 feet and 5.50 inches. The throw was also an indoor school record. Sophomore Katie Thelen (St. Johns) threw 33 feet and 10.75 inches. Four also competed in the weight throw, and Wegener had the team's best throw at 37 feet and 3.25 inches. Thelen's best toss was only one inch less at 37 feet and 2.25 inches. Sophomore Allyson Ramer (Lansing/Holt) participated in the 200 and 400 dashes.
The rest of Olivet's indoor season will take place in January and February 2012. The first meet is the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Classic on Jan. 20.
