KENOSHA, Wis. – The Olivet College women's swimming team placed fourth of five teams at the Carthage CollegeSwimming.com Classic Dec. 2-3 at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. The Comets had 575 points. The host Lady Reds won the championship with 1,054 points, followed by Lewis (Ill.) University, 757.5; and Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 613.5.
The only event winner for Olivet was performed by senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) in the 50 freestyle. After clocking in just off an NCAA qualifying cut time of 23.98 seconds in the prelims, she slowed to 24.38 seconds in the finals. Freshman Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) finished right behind her in second at 24.81 seconds.
Lohr was also the Comets' best finisher in the 100 butterfly. She finished in fourth-place at 1:00.80. Sophomore Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) completed the 400 individual medley in a season-best time of 4:57.48 to finish in fourth-place. Freshman Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron) was seventh in 5:04.18.
Junior Jana Blodgett (Sturgis) placed sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.54), while sophomore Jacalyn Cordero (Holland) was sixth in the 100 backstroke (1:01.34). Johnson touched the wall seventh in the 200 freestyle (2:02.80).
The 200 medley relay finished in second-place at 1:52.57, while the 400 freestyle relay was fourth at 3:47.87.
The Comets will now concentrate on their fall semester exams and then train at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Pool in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dec. 11-19. Olivet will compete against North Central (Ill.) College on Dec. 13.
