Men’s swimming team beats Ohio Northern, women lose to Hillsdale and Ohio Northern
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming teams competed in a double dual meet tonight at Hillsdale College. The women fell to the host Chargers (171-48) and Ohio Northern University (161-66), while the men also lost to Ohio Northern (145-92).
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming teams competed in a double dual meet tonight at Hillsdale College. The women fell to the host Chargers (171-48) and Ohio Northern University (161-66), while the men also lost to Ohio Northern (145-92).
For the men, the 200 medley relay team of Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett), Phil Barone Jr. (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales), Mike Harden (St. Johns) and Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) took first-place with a time of 1:37.84. Korey Mervenne (Jenison) was third in the 1,000 freestyle, stopping the clock in 10:43.18.
Brock Jackson (Sturgis) won the 200 freestyle in 1:46.90. Ben Aldrich finished first in the 50 freestyle in 22.19 seconds. Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) was Olivet's top finisher in the 100 butterfly, as he was third in 53.82 seconds.
Austin Munn (Pinckney) led a 1-2 Comet finish in the 100 freestyle. His time was 49.16 seconds, followed by Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson) in 49.41 seconds. Edgar helped Olivet finish 1-2 in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.16 seconds, while Brandon McShane (Southgate/Anderson) was second in 56.42 seconds.
Jackson placed third in the 500 freestyle in 5:04.81. Josh Mauk (Battle Creek/Lakeview) recorded a season-best time of 1:03.46 in the 100 breaststroke to finish in second-place. Barone Jr. was behind him in third with a time of 1:03.49.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa Colegio), Ben Aldrich, Jackson and Munn was the runner-up finisher in 3:16.33.
For the women, Caitlin Lohr was first in the 50 freestyle in 24.47 seconds. She also finished in second-place in the 100 freestyle. The 400 freestyle relay team of Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview), Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy), Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) and Lohr placed third in a season-best time of 3:47.02. Lohr had the fastest anchor leg with a 54.95 second split.
The Comets will rest tonight and then make the short trip to Albion College for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association dual meet tomorrow. Action from inside the Dean Aquatic Center starts at 11 a.m.
