Women’s lacrosse team loses to Otterbein, 16-2
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse team dropped a 16-2 decision to Otterbein (Ohio) University this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
Neither team generated a goal until the 19:35 mark of the opening half when Maddy Blackburn scored a free-position goal for the Cardinals. That goal was the first of seven straight for Otterbein. Junior Geri Merrell (Battle Creek/Lakeview) got the Comets on the scoreboard on a free-position goal with 4:38 left until halftime. The Cardinals scored with only three seconds left before halftime to take an 8-1 lead at the break.
Olivet scored the first goal of the second half when Merrell found the back of the net. The Cardinals closed the game by scoring eight consecutive goals. The first four came in an 89-second span.
For the game, the Comets took 16 shots. Merrell led the way with 10 shots. Three others each had two shots. Freshman Xavier Vance (West Bloomfield) faced 38 shots in goal and collected 15 shots.
Olivet travels to play University of Mount Union (Ohio) Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
