Tyler scores in two events at MIAA Field Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) tied for first-place in the 400-meter dash and was third in the 200-meter dash to lead the Olivet College men's track and field team today at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, which was hosted by Calvin College.

A late surge in the final five meters of the 400 allowed Tyler to tie Adrian College's Chad Allemon at 49.02 seconds. There was no separation between the two runners at the line, and the meet officials declared a dead heat. Tyler also placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22 seconds, which was only one-hundredth slower than the school record.

Tyler joined with freshman Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos), freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) and senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) for a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay. They crossed the line at 42.90 seconds, only one-tenth behind the winning relay from Hope College. Alman, Tyler, Williams and freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) were fourth in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:24.47.

Individually, Weaver placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.35. In the 100-meter dash, Pettway and Williams crossed the line fourth and fifth-place, respectively. One-hundredth of a second separated them at the line, as Pettway finished in 11.21 seconds, and Williams was behind him in 11.22 seconds.

Olivet failed to score any team points in today's field events.

The Comets are planning to send a couple runners to a last chance meet next Friday and Saturday at Grand Valley State University.
