Men’s track and field team opens outdoor season with fourth-place finish
The Olivet College men’s track and field team finished in fourth-place (out of seven teams) at the Defiance (Ohio) College Open Meet. The meet was the first of the outdoor season for the Comets. Olivet student-athletes combined to score 67 points. Adrian College won the team title.
DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College men's track and field team finished in fourth-place (out of seven teams) at the Defiance (Ohio) College Open Meet. The meet was the first of the outdoor season for the Comets. Olivet student-athletes combined to score 67 points. Adrian College won the team title.
Leading the way for the Comets was senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central). He led a 1-2 Olivet finish in the 100 meter dash, stopping the clock at 11.31 seconds. Freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) was right behind him at 11.41 seconds.
Pettway also turned in a third-place finish in the 200 meter dash (:23.34). Running in his first collegiate track meet, senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) placed third in the 400 meter dash (:52.58). Other top five performances on the track were by freshman Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) in the 400 meter dash (fourth, :53.66), freshman Greg Lutzke (Williamston) in the 5,000 meter run (fifth, 16:18.15) and freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) in the 1,500 meter run (fourth, 4:14.16).
The best result for the Comets in the field events was by senior Lee Cline (Mt. Morris). He had a 39.71 meters/130 feet, 3 inch throw in the javelin, which placed him sixth.
Olivet will next compete Saturday, April 7 at the All-American Meet, hosted by Adrian. Field events will get started at 10 a.m., followed by running events at 11 a.m.
