Men’s swimming and diving team comes up short against Kalamazoo, 193-91
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 193-91 decision to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Kalamazoo College, 193-91, today in Kalamazoo.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team dropped a 193-91 decision to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Kalamazoo College, 193-91, today in Kalamazoo.
The Comets had three event winners, sophomore Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul) in the 200-yard butterfly, 1:58.59; freshman Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) in the 200-yard breaststroke, 2:14.46; and junior Korey Mervenne (Jenison) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 10:24.73.
Howard led a 1-2 Olivet finish in the 200 breast, as sophomore Phil Bielak (Brownstown/Woodhaven) took second over Kalamazoo's Jacob Lindquist by three-hundredths of a second at 2:17.68-2:17.61. Also finishing in second was Aoun in the 100-yard butterfly, :53.64; and freshman Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) in the three-meter diving, 221.20 points.
The Comets' two relays also finished in second. The 200-yard medley relay consisted of freshman Eric Dawdy (Holt), junior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), Aoun and junior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns), and they clocked-in at 1:39.29. The 200-yard freestyle relay was Howard, sophomore Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton), Dawdy and Aldrich, and they finished in 1:30.61.
Olivet returns to the pool next Friday, Nov. 9, for a non-conference dual meet against Ohio Northern University. The meet is taking place at Hillsdale College, and will get under way at 6 p.m.
