Men’s swimming team ends dual meet season with 146-88 loss at Calvin
The Olivet College men’s swimming team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 146-88 loss to Calvin College today at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 146-88 loss to Calvin College today at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.
The Comets swept the top three spots in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson) took first-place in 21.39 seconds, followed by senior Austin Munn (Pinckney) in 22.08 seconds and sophomore Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) in a season-best 22.83 seconds. This trio teamed with senior Mike Harden (St. Johns) for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, winning in a season-best time of 3:09.39. Each of their four splits were fastest in the event, with Fiorillo's 46.66 leadoff split being the fastest.
Other event winners were freshman Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa Colegio) in the 200 individual medley, 2:00.78; and junior Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) in the 100 butterfly, season-best :52.75.
The Comets will now turn their attention to the 2012 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday-Saturday, Feb. 15-18 at the Holland Community Aquatic Center. Action starts Wednesday night at 7 p.m. with the 800-yard freestyle relay. The other three days each have preliminaries in the morning, starting at 10 a.m. and finals in the same events, starting at 5:30 p.m.
