Men’s swimming team sweeps triple dual meet
The Olivet College men’s swimming team won all three dual meets in a triple dual meet at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek. The Comets defeated Carthage (Wis.) College, 216-98; Albion College, 265-65; and Hope College, 203-111.

In today's events, the Comets took first-place in six-of-10 events. They got off to a quick start with a 1-2 finish in the 200 medley relay. Nick Edgar (Lansing/ Everett), Phil Barone Jr. (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales), Mike Harden (St. Johns) and Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson) won in 1:36.78. The "B" team of Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview), Matt Marquette (Kalamazoo/Loy Norrix), Josh Mauk (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) was second in 1:38.94.
Fiorillo then took first-place in the 100 freestyle in 21.33 seconds. Aldrich and Brock Jackson (Sturgis) tied for third with identical times of 21.95 seconds. Edgar kept the streak of first-place finishes going, winning the 100 backstroke and nipping Hope's Nick Hazekamp at the wall by .03 seconds, 54.59-54.62.
Barone Jr. led a 2-3-4 Olivet finish in the 200 breaststroke. He finished in 2:16.94, followed by Mauk in 2:20.22 and Phil Bielak (Brownstown/Woodhaven) in 2:21.12. The 200 butterfly featured a 1-2 Olivet finish, as Knight took top honors in 52.87 seconds and Geoges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa Colegio) was next in 53.41 seconds.
Jackson captured first-place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:46.53, which was two seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Austin Munn (Pinckney) placed third in 1:49.58. Aoun was the Comets' best finisher in the 400 individual medley, as he placed second in 4:26.94.
In the final event, 400 freestyle relay, Olivet finished in first-place by almost four seconds. The team of Fiorillo, Harden, Jackson and Munn beat Hope's team, 3:12.19-3:15.95. The Comets' "B" relay of Mauk, Nick Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns), Edgar and Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) placed third in 3:21.72.
Olivet is back in action Friday, Nov. 11, for a non-conference dual meet against Ohio Northern University. The meet will be at Hillsdale College, and action starts at 6 p.m.
